Pen-in-Hand Command
Pen-in-Hand Command is a real-time strategy game that combines pen and touch interaction to enable embodied gameplay and develop new techniques for competitive eSports gaming. Using a Wacom Cintiq display coupled with a ZeroTouch sensor, we combine the precision of pen-based interaction with the direct manipulation affordances that multi-touch provides. We investigate the centrality of the human-computer interface as the invisible medium though which game mechanics are realized. In competitive gaming, the limitations of the interface define the speed and scale at which players can interact, and this work aims to tease out new methodologies and implications for competitive game design in a NUI world.
